Do you play video games and watch “those“ movies a lot? If your answer is yes, then you could be dead soon. At least, that's what psychologists Philip Zimbardo and Nikita Duncan are saying in a book that could leave many stunned. Why the early deaths? Because Zimbardo and Duncan conducted a survey and reached a conclusion that “avid gamers and hardcore Internet porn viewers will die sooner“. In their book titled, The Demise of Guys: Why Boys Are Struggling and What We Can Do About It, they reveal not only does avid gaming and online porn lead to isolation, it creates a major rift in social relations and that ultimately leads to early departure. According to Zimbardo, the average teenage guy spends 44 hours a week in front of a television or a computer screen and JUST half-an-hour in one-on-one conversation with family or friends. This effectively makes him, The Loner.
Psychologist H.M. Kulshreshtha says, “I've had two cases till date. Both were obsessed with gaming and online porn, to such an extent that they would miss office hours and this also started playing havoc with their relationships.“
But youngsters in the city are not really bothered by this verdict. S. Pavan Kumar, an avid gamer, and a freelancer animator says, “Gaming is an integral part of my life. The time spent playing, often hinders the growth of relationships.“ We hope he finds a girlfriend and that brings us to the weird bit... What about online porn?
Says a guy (name withheld) working at an “IT company“, “Everyone watches porn.“ But why porn, wouldn't it affect relationships? “It's a guy thing. It's not something everyone understands.“ Sure IT guy! Also, the survey has piqued interest.
“The book sounds interesting I would love to read it, but nothing can ever, EVER, dissuade me from playing video games,“ gamer and merchant navy man Rahul Reddy said.
